RNCM Young Basses

RNCM Young Basses is a series of free workshops on playing the double bass. It is a chance to meet other bassists and get expert tuition and advice on a range of topics.

Young Basses is a series of six workshops on playing the double bass, free to anyone of school age. Sessions will be hosted by Geth Griffith and Rachel Meerloo.

At each workshop there will be sessions on jazz, orchestral, solo and chamber playing. Each workshop runs from 10am – 1pm. Admissions is free.

Geth Griffith

Geth Griffith has an eclectic taste in music which has led to work with Lewis Capaldi, the Hallé, James Morrison, Opera North, Matt Cardle, the Royal Northern Sinfonia, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the American Four Tops, Mark Hart (Crowded House), two tours with Katherine Jenkins, Anthony Costa (Blue) and the Ulster Orchestra. He has also deputised on a variety of West End productions including Matilda, Miss Saigon, Dirty Dancing and West Side Story. Geth teaches at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Liverpool Institute for performing Arts.

Rachel Meerloo

Rachel Meerloo is currently a member of the Hallé and Double Bass Tutor at RNCM Young Strings. She freelanced and trialled for orchestral positions with many of the UK’s most prestigious orchestras before joining the Hallé in February 2011. As a chamber musician Rachel regularly performs and records with ensembles such as the Kreutzer Quartet and Longbow Ensemble. Other performing highlights include playing with Muse and recording several tracks with Elbow. Orchestral coaching credits include Hallé Youth Orchestra and NYO Inspire.
