Hallé/RNCM Strings Leadership Course
Applicants are invited to audition for the Hallé/Royal Northern College of Music Strings Leadership Course. Supported by the Musicians Benevolent Fund, the course will run over one academic year and is based in the vibrant cultural city of Manchester.
A limited number of chairs will be available in September 2012 for outstanding British violinists, violists, cellists or double bass players who have recently completed postgraduate studies at a recognised UK, EU or international conservatoire, and who aspire to be the leading orchestral players of the future. Successful applicants will be selected by audition process and a brief trial.
Guaranteed minimum of £10,000 paid work with the Hallé and the chance to apply for the Charles Hallé Award worth £2,000. Fee: £6,200 minus a bursary of £1,500 (£4,700)
Students will be mentored by and work in close collaboration with the Hallé’s section leaders, and their overall development will be overseen by the Music Director of the Hallé, Sir Mark Elder. As well as providing orchestral training (including opportunities to play alongside the principal players) and high-profile external public performance opportunities, the course will enable students further to develop their individual playing skills with instrumental tuition from Europe’s finest teachers at the RNCM together with specialist classes in communication and presentation skills, people management, chamber music and education workshop delivery.

or T +44(0)161 907 5337 or +44(0)161 907 5260. Your application should be supported by two references (one specific to orchestral playing).
Closing date: Tuesday 31 January 2012. Auditions: late February / early March.
It may be possible for exceptional arrangements to be made for late
applicants. If there is a high volume of applicants, given the very
limited number of spaces and the high standard required, applicants with
insufficient experience according to their CV may not be called for
audition.
Audition requirements: a major concerto movement and prepared excerpts.
After the closing date, applicants who are being invited to audition
will be notified and also sent the excerpts for preparation.
‘This was edge-of-your-seat stuff and absolutely outstanding.’
