RNCM Postgraduate International Artist Diploma

The RNCM Postgraduate International Artist Diploma represents the pinnacle of achievement in performance at the College, and is designed for a small number of top level performers identified as having the potential to progress to an international career in their chosen field.

This diploma offers the very highest level of professional training to further develop and hone students’ artistic, technical, presentation and communication skills and expand their recital and concerto repertory. Training is delivered through intensive instrumental or vocal tuition with coaching from renowned international teachers, a range of high-profile public performance opportunities and a variety of specialist classes.

There are four distinct pathways: 

Solo performance

Designed for soloists on the cusp of an international performing career, this course offers intensive one-to-one tuition, access to a professional pianist, high-profile public performance opportunities, the opportunity for a period of exchange study at a partner international conservatoire, and specialist classes in presentation and communication skills

Chamber music

An exceptional programme of coaching delivered within the RNCM International Chamber Music Studio, and available to student ensembles of exceptional ability, who have the potential for an international career as chamber musicians. The course offers intensive group coaching, additional one-to-one tuition, preparation for high-profile concerts and competitions, the possibility of participation in the European Chamber Music Academy Programme (subject to audition), and specialist classes in presentation and communication skills

Opera studies

Delivered through the RNCM International Opera Studio, this course is for students who have the potential for an international career as operatic soloists. Working with renowned international coaches, directors and conductors, students will develop their performance skills through intensive one-to-one coaching, vocal consultancy and language coaching, a wide range of classes focusing on stage skills, and access to major roles in the College’s opera productions (subject to audition)

Hallé/RNCM String Leadership

For UK string players who have just completed advanced performance study at postgraduate level and are about to embark on a full career as an orchestral musician, and potentially as future section leaders. The emphasis is on developing the sophisticated leadership skills required for professional string Principal Chairs through a combination of mentoring, tuition and professional experience delivered by String Principals in the Hallé Orchestra, education and outreach teams, and the RNCM tutorial staff. Throughout the academic year, students undertake paid performance opportunities with the Hallé Orchestra, alongside Principal Study tuition and chamber music coaching at the RNCM.
