Tutor in Flute
Richard is principal flute with the BBC Philharmonic as well as author of Becoming an Orchestral Musician: A Guide for Aspiring Professionals , which has been described as ‘an unbeatable-value master-class’ by Classical Music Magazine. For nearly 20 years he has held the position of Senior Lecturer of Flute at the RNCM (where he studied with Trevor Wye) and, more recently also began teaching the flute at Chetham’s School of Music.
In 1983 Richard won first prize in the coveted international flute competition held in America by the National Flute Association of America. As a soloist, he has recorded and broadcast concerti and recitals throughout the world and, as an orchestral player, has appeared on over 200 CDs. He is also active as a conductor and orchestra training coach.
