This festival celebrates James MacMillan at 50 and also, sadly, brings to an end his nine year relationship as Composer/Conductor with the BBC Philharmonic.

Raising Sparks: RNCM Wind Orchestra, RNCM Brass Ensemble & RNCM Brass Band
A concert of music inspired by MacMillan’s Catholic faith and also his passionately held political beliefs. The sheer joy of Sowetan Spring, written in celebration of the release of Nelson Mandela from prison in 1990, has to be heard to be believed.

MacMillan and John Casken have remained close friends and kindred spirits since MacMillan’s studies with Casken at Durham in the late 1980s, prior to both of their tenures at The University of Manchester.
