MacMillan and John Casken have remained close friends and kindred spirits since MacMillan’s studies with Casken at Durham in the late 1980s, prior to both of their tenures at The University of Manchester.

The RNCM New Ensemble closes the Festival as it began the first MacMillan Festival nine years ago, with the powerful, spiritual song-cycle Raising Sparks.
