Fitkin played their first-ever show at the 2009 Chester Festival. Focusing on new and rhythmically intricate music, the band’s performances are amplified and tread the line between formal concert genres and more informal music.
With vibrant sounds and pulsating rhythms, Fitkin’s music appeals to a wide range of audiences and stylistic influences from jazz to minimalism, and early music to folk are clearly recognisable. Tonight’s line-up features some of the best musicians working in the contemporary music field, including Graham Fitkin himself, whose compositions have featured regularly at the RNCM, and who played here in March 2007 with sax player Tim Garland in the wonderful Momentum project. The line-up also includes Joby Burgess, who brought his own hi-octane project, Powerplant, to the RNCM 18 months later.
