RNCM Concert Orchestra
Igor Stravinsky The Rite of Spring (Part I) with Part II performed in the 2-piano version
Clark Rundell, Ewa Strusinska conductors
Benjamin Powell, Malcolm Forbes-Peckham pianos
Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring caused a riot when it was first performed in 1913 and it’s not difficult to understand why when you hear its unrelentingly barbaric dissonances and asymmetrical rhythms.
Renowned for the challenges it makes of every orchestral player, the work will be performed over two lunchtime concerts (today and next Thursday), with the second ‘half’ performed in Stravinsky’s own arrangement for two pianos. So you’ll be able to hear the whole work at each concert.
