Composition

Led by the Head of the School of Composition, Adam Gorb, RNCM composers are all active researchers who are regularly commissioned by a wide range of prestigious performers and organisations, and are frequently performed in festivals such as Cheltenham, Huddersfield, the BBC Proms and internationally.

Recent and current projects include:


  • Commissions and performances by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, London Symphony, Scottish Chamber, BBC Philharmonic, Scottish and Symphony Orchestras, Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra and US Marine Band
  • Commissions and performances by the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Goldberg Ensemble, Nash Ensemble, Psappha, London Sinfonietta, Scottish Ensemble, Ensemble 10:10, Ensemble Moderne, Nieuw Ensemble (NL) and Remix Ensemble (Portugal)
  • An arrangement with Louis Andriessen of an orchestral suite from his opera Writing to Vermeer, free re-compositions of electronica tracks by Warp artists and of music by The Velvet Underground
