RNCM Composer Wins Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award

RNCM alumnus and Tutor in Composition Larry Goves is one of eight artists and composers to receive the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award. He will receive funding of £45,000 over three years to enable him to develop his practice.
Larry’s writing draws together aspects of modernist classical traditions, certain features of 19th century romantic music and elements from rock and blues music. So far in his career he has collaborated on a number of projects with other artists, notably: building instruments with David Sheppard, performing and arranging blues songs with singer/songwriter Sandy Dillon in Berlin and creating a large number of pieces with writer Matthew Welton.
On winning the award, Larry said: ‘I'm struggling to believe that I've been offered a Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award. It feels like an amazing vote of confidence alongside the means to concentrate on my composing with more time and more vigour. My sincerest, flabbergasted thanks.’
Larry’s recent performances include a 30 minute piano concerto for Sarah Nicolls and the London Sinfonietta. He is currently working towards a new piece to be performed alongside old work with French ensemble L'Instant Donné and a new short work for the 10th anniversary of vocal ensemble EXAUDI.
