Alumni Shortlisted for RPS Music Awards

RNCM alumni Kathryn Rudge and Gavin Higgins have been shortlisted for RPS Music Awards.

Mezzo-soprano Kathryn, a 2011 graduate who was recently selected as a BBC New Generation Artist, has been nominated in the Young Artist category, while 2005 alumnus Gavin appears in the Large Scale Composition section thanks to Dark Arteries, a Rambert Dance Company commission marking the 30th anniversary of the end of the miners’ strike.

RPS chairman John Gilhooly said of the shortlist: ‘They are brimming with youth, honour distinguished musicians and the most brilliant musical minds, champion imaginative, ever- evolving ways of communicating about and participating in music, and show that those who love classical music are determined to inspire a new, and diverse generation.

‘I hope that the RPS Music Awards deliver a clear message: classical music offers joyous, sometimes profound, often uplifting experiences – and it’s for everyone, regardless of who they are, or where they come from!’
