Schneemann is RNCM’s International Chair in Oboe and Chamber Music

Dutch oboist Bart Schneemann is the RNCM’s new International Chair in Oboe and Chamber Music.

Born in Australia, Bart held the position of Principal oboe with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra until 1996 and in 1988 became Artistic Director of the Netherlands Wind Ensemble, now considered one of the finest wind ensembles in the world.

Dr Paul Goodey, oboist and Vice Principal (Performance), said: ‘I am delighted that we welcome Bart Schneemann as our new International Chair in Oboe and Chamber Music. Bart visited the College last year with the Netherlands Wind Ensemble as part The Platform, the RNCM’s international centre for ensemble and vocal training. Staff already knew what an outstanding musician he was, but were overwhelmed by his charismatic teaching which truly captured the students’ imagination.

‘He will add something very different and very exciting to our team of International Chairs and Tutors: he is active in an extremely wide range of performance and is the first Wind, Brass and Percussion tutor to visit from The Netherlands. Above all, he has a dynamic and fresh approach to everything he does and is a delight to work with.’

Bart’s first visit will contain a mixture of oboe classes and chamber coaching and, in a new departure for the School of Wind, Brass and Percussion, a pop-up performance created following a morning’s work with any student wishing to participate.
