Richard Wigley

Richard Wigley was born in New Zealand where he completed his BMus at Victoria University of Wellington in 1983; he then studied post-graduate bassoon at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, US for his MMus (Perf). 

After moving to London he was appointed to be second bassoon in the Halle Orchestra in 1988.  From 1994-99 he was the Halle's Education Manager after which he became Head of Artistic Planning.  From 2001 he was Head of Performance and Programming at the RNCM before becoming General Manager of the BBC Philharmonic in 2004.

In addition to being on the Board of the RNCM he is a Visiting Professor at Salford University. Outside of music his passions include sourdough bread making and very slow fell running.
