This concert is given as part of Chetham’s Britten 100 series of performances celebrating the centenary of the birth of Benjamin Britten. The major work in this programme will be Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony, with Britten’s late orchestral work, the folk song suite A Time There Was as a prelude.
‘When I worked with Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra, I found them to be a remarkable group of young musicians. Given the School’s reputation, I had expected them to be full of talent. What was even more thrilling was their ability to engage in musical problems and stretch themselves way beyond my wildest dreams. Breaking such barriers must surely be what Chets is about!’ Sir Mark Elder CBE
Concert given as part of Chetham’s Britten 100 Celebrations.
