Peter Jablonski is one the world’s finest interpreters of American music, most recently recording George Gershwin’s Second Rhapsody for the cover CD of the March 2010 issue of BBC Music Magazine. To close the Festival, Jablonski performs a programme that encapsulates the essence of 20th century American keyboard music and all of its influences. The ‘holy trinity’ of Bernstein, Barber and Copland all feature, as do pivotal pieces in American musical evolution, not least the Sonata by Barber, a work hailed upon its première by Vladimir Horowitz as a masterpiece of American musical literature and described by the artist as ‘the first truly great native work in the form’.
‘It may happen once a season or once in a lifetime. Along comes a talent, not merely your run-of-the-mill virtuoso, but someone, something extraordinary that makes you rethink a piece of music you thought you’ve known forever.’ Washington Post on Peter Jablonski
