RNCM Day of Song

Songs Without Borders

Through necessity or choice, many leading figures from the arts travelled extensively and were influenced by the cultures they visited, and the lands they discovered. Songs Without Borders celebrates those that journeyed to new horizons and those that experienced a wider arc of civilisation and society.

We are delighted to welcome the outstanding pianist, author and broadcaster Iain Burnside as our special guest. Iain has chosen a fascinating programme of song for our final recital, which he will present and perform alongside the RNCM Songsters. Highlights of the day also include a performance of Gabriel Jackson’s evocative Exile Meditations by the RNCM Chamber Choir, a work that explores the world of the refugee through texts from Latvia and the modern day Middle-East. The recital In Our Own Words will be a personal experience in which our own students will perform songs chosen by them, connecting them with their homeland.
