Running alongside our Strings Festival programme on Saturday, we have a series of free events focused on classical guitar, including a masterclass with Craig Ogden and participatory workshop with Rory Russell, details below:

LECTURE: COME HEAVY SLEEP – THE STORY OF BRITTEN’S ‘NOCTURNAL’
WITH TOM MCKINNEY

Based on interviews made with Julian Bream in 2013, Tom McKinney provides new insights into the background of one of the guitar’s most important compositions. With information previously never available in the public domain, Tom will explain how Britten’s approach to composition was influenced by disturbing images and nightmares, leading to a work whose meaning is endlessly perplexing and unsettling.

GUITAR WORKSHOP
WITH RORY RUSSELL

This ensemble workshop will be open to guitarists of all ages Grade 3 and above, providing guitarists with the opportunity to work on ensemble skills. Music will be provided in advance. The workshop will end with an informal performance.
