AHRC North West Consortium Doctoral Training Partnership (NWCDTP) at the RNCM

The NWCDTP makes a number of awards to new and continuing PhD students at seven higher education institutions including the RNCM, on a highly competitive basis. Since the scheme began, two or three students at RNCM have won awards each year.

Rate
Subject to residential eligibility status, the award covers tuition fees, maintenance stipend (the annual stipend rate for 2019-20 is £15,009) and the opportunity to apply for additional funding contributing to fieldwork and conference costs. Students opting to study part-time will receive a pro rata maintenance stipend.

Continuation of award
Continuation of the award is subject to satisfactory progress.

Allowed study options
This funding is available to students undertaking full-time or part-time study.

Nationality restrictions
This funding is available to students from the UK and EU.

Eligibility criteria
Applicants to the RNCM for a place on its research degrees programme can apply for AHRC funding provided they already hold an offer of a place (see below). Current full-time students in the first year of their PhD studies and current part-time students in the first or second year can apply for AHRC funding for the remainder of their studies. Procedure for applying to RNCM
Applicants for AHRC funding who are not current RNCM students must submit their applications for a place on the RNCM research degree programme by 5pm (GMT) on 16 December2019, to ensure that they can be offered a place by the time applications are due to be submitted to NWCDTP. For the admission criteria for each pathway (composition, musicology, music education, music psychology, performance, please refer to the RNCM Guidelines for Applicants. 

Procedure for applying to NWCDTP
Once applicants for AHRC funding have been offered a place at RNCM they, like current RNCM students, should complete and submit the NWCDTP application form, with the attachments listed below, to Research@rncm.ac.uk, by 5pm (GMT) on 7 February 2020.  

Please note that this is a strict deadline and applications received after 5pm will not be considered for entry to the competition for funding awards.

The NWCDTP application form incorporates a 1500-word research proposal (including bibliography or list of references). Degree certificates, full transcripts and references must be attached to the application form.

Award criteria
Please note that the competition for AHRC funding has three stages and there is no guarantee that applicants for places on the RNCM research degree programme, or current RNCM students, will be entered into the second (music pathway) or third (studentship) stages of the NWCDTP competition. RNCM interview dates
Interview dates are 28, 29 and 30 January 2020.

Decision date
Applicants for AHRC funding will be notified of the outcome of their application by 6 April 2020.
