Closing date: Midday Wednesday 29th March 2017
Interview date: Tuesday 25th April 2017

The Royal Northern College of Music seeks to appoint an outstanding musician as Head of School of Wind, Brass and Percussion, to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to co-ordinate and develop the work of a world-leading department, which numbers around 250 students and 100 teaching staff, many of whom visit from mainland Europe and beyond.

The successful applicant will be a specialist in a woodwind or brass discipline with an extensive range of professional connections and experiences, and have a broad knowledge and relevant experience of conservatoire education and of instrumental pedagogy. S/he will lead and develop the College’s partnerships with world-renowned ensembles, instrumentalists and professional recording labels, finding creative ways to build the range of training opportunities for wind, brass and percussion students which supports their transition into the music profession.

Reporting to the Director of Performance and working with the Heads of the Principal Study Schools and the Vice Principal (Academic), the successful applicant will play a major contribution in the development of the strategic ambitions of the College in its learning and teaching and the activity of its artistic offer. The post will be supported by two deputy positions held by staff with complementary specialisms to those of the new Head.

With an outstanding profile in professional practice and/or research, and with ambitious plans for themselves and the School, the postholder will support the development of research in the music college ranked highest in the UK’s Research Excellence Framework 2014.
