Hazalen Tang is a Hong Kong-born bassoonist who currently works as a junior fellow at the Royal Northern College of Music. With the support of Margaret B Adams Award, she obtained her Master of Performance (Orchestral Artistry) from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2022 and studied bassoon and contrabassoon under the tutelage of Daniel Jemison, Helen Simons, Richard Ion and Dominic Morgan. Hazalen worked closely with the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra and won a position in the Guildhall Wind Soloists group. She played with the London Symphony Orchestra at Trafalgar Square and St Paul’s Cathedral under the baton of Simon Rattle, and she was offered a junior fellowship by GSMD after graduation.
For extra orchestral experience, Hazalen played as the principal bassoon with the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra and was the bassoon associate of the Glyndebourne Jerwood Pit Perfect fellowship in 2023. She also participated in various music festivals such as Voksenåsen Summer Academy in Norway, German Nordic Youth Orchestra in Germany and Young Artist Summer Program held by the Curtis Institute of Music in USA etc.
Hazalen is keen on chamber music, and she is a member of the Ensemble Fioritura. She performed in Brighton, Aylesbury, Faversham, Purely, Westminster Library, and took part in the Hong Kong French May Festival with her group.
