Responsible for RNCM Moodle the college virtual learning environment and for the development and support of learning technology across the college.
Having originally studied electronic engineering I worked in the NHS for 10 years in medical physics and biochemistry research laboratories. I obtained a Master of Medical Science from the University of Birmingham based on research I had carried out during this time.
I became interested in the potential for using the internet to support and enhance teaching and learning whilst working at the University of Teesside in the late 1990’s. I developed a simple web-based system to support teaching across the School of Social Sciences and Law. I then moved to the University of Salford where I set up, developed and supported the University Blackboard-based online learning environment.
Coming to the RNCM has given me the opportunity to work with a much smaller number of students and staff, and (hopefully) develop a system which is tailored more closely to their specific needs than is possible in a large institution. My philosophy is not technology for it’s own sake, but to try to show where technology can be a real benefit.
Although not a musician myself I greatly enjoy the many and diverse opportunities the college gives me for attending top-class performances and for working with so many talented and enthusiastic staff and students.
