Visiting Repetiteur

Steven graduated with a music degree from Durham University before going on to study piano accompaniment at the RNCM and to train as a répétiteur and coach at the National Opera Studio. 

Since then he has worked principally for Glyndebourne where he has been a senior coach for many years. Future plans there include Tristan und Isolde and Kat’yá Kabanová in a new production conducted by Glyndebourne’s music director Robin Ticciati. 

Steven has been a frequent guest répétiteur at the Dutch National Opera. He has worked on Der Rosenkavalier with Sir Simon Rattle, Don Carlo with Yannick Nézét-Séguin, La Fanciulla del West with Carlo Rizzi, and most recently,  La Cenerentola with Daniele Rustioni. In 2022 he will be working on a new production of Tosca with Lorenzo Viotti.

He has worked on various recording projects with Opera Rara. With Sir Mark Elder, Rossini’s Les Martyrs and Puccini’s Le Willis, and with Maurizio Benini, Leoncavallo’s Zázá. He recently gave a Wigmore Hall recital with Opera Rara’s star soprano, the internationally acclaimed Ermonela Jaho.

He was music and language coach on David McVicar’s award winning production of The Turn of the Screw at the Mariinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg, conducted by Valery Gergiev.

Apart from the RNCM, Steven also coaches at the National Opera Studio, the Royal Academy of Music, and the Wales International Academy of Voice.
