RNCM Strings Day: Mozart & Schoenberg
Saturday 14 January 2023, 7.30pm
RNCM Concert Hall

RNCM Strings Day celebrates staff, students, and visiting international artists performing side-by-side in an exhilarating day of string music and collaboration.
We round off our celebrations with an extraordinary performance of Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night) in its full string orchestra glory. Nearly 100 hundred staff, students, and visiting artists join forces to bring this monumental work to life in a rare moment for string players and audiences alike.
Originally written for sextet and rearranged by Schoenberg himself years later, Verklärte Nacht takes its inspiration from a poem of the same name by Richard Dehmel. Romantic in style, this piece is a musical portrayal of a couple whose lives are transfigured by the night through themes of understanding and acceptance.
