The brilliance and vivacity of a brass ensemble is enough to fill any listener with excitement and intrigue let alone one led by the legendary Steven Verhaert. He’s renowned for having a multi-faceted career that has taken him across Europe as an in-demand performer, conductor, and arranger.
Broad sonorities and pounding rhythms in Janáček’s Sokol Fanfare offer an impressive opening to this afternoon’s performance followed by the earlier works of Gesualdo and Lully. Playing on listeners’ intrigue, the programme rounds off with an inventory of material that Christian Lindberg had previously dismissed as being ‘too rough and rocky’ in his work Brainrubbish.
Leoš Janáček arr Verhaert Sokol Fanfare *
Carlo Gesualdo arr Verhaert Suite
Jean-Baptiste Lully arr Verhaert Suite from Psyche

Steven Verhaert, Andreas Asiikkis * conductors
