Alice Zawadzki | Fred Thomas | Misha Mullov-Abbado
Za Górami
Part of our new Inspirational Artists series.
Inhabiting their own style that blends Mediterranean folk song, chamber music, improvisation, and acoustic jazz, this renowned trio share stories and soundscapes collected from their travels.
Violinist and songwriter Alice Zawadzki, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Fred Thomas, and jazz bassist and composer Misha Mullov-Abbado have worked together for nearly a decade now, harnessing a clear empathy and visceral synergy.
Their debut album Za Górami (Behind the Mountains) gathers folk tales and tunes from Argentina, France, Venezuela, Poland, and Sephardic culture. Unfolding through ten stories, the trio brings this album to life, revealing music that speaks to the moon, the mountains, the rain, the madness of humans, and the prophecies of birds.
‘Our trio relies on the intimacy of deep listening and a trust in our long-standing friendship. The discovery of what each song wanted to be was a patient process of contemplation, omission, and distillation of ideas, animated by the flexibility of our instrumentation: voice, piano, double bass, violin, vielle, and percussion.’
