About
Part of RNCM International Brass Band Festival.
On the back of their 140th anniversary, Cory Band opens this performance with its 2024 composition prize winner, Thibault Bruniaux’s Storm.
Tommy Tynan then joins Cory for Ricardo Molla’s Concerto for Tuba ‘Amaia’ – a musical story of transformation and personal growth set on the Cantabrian coast of northern Spain. The young protagonist, Amaia, embarks on a dreamlike journey in which she encounters mythical beings who teach her valuable lessons about the elements and life.
Ensemble méchanique, a very rhythmic and jazz-inspired piece by Viskamol Chaiwanichsiri written to emulate sounds in a factory, precedes Edward Gregson’s Dances and Arias to close this performance. The title of Gregson’s piece emulates the structure of the music that oscillates between energetic dance themes and melodious, lyrical lines like those found in an aria.
