Regularly performing at the likes of New York’s Carnegie Hall and London’s Wigmore Hall, the Elias is one of the world’s leading quartets, recognised for the intensity and vibrancy of their performances. You might be aware that the Elias Quartet was formed at the RNCM in 1998 and that they regularly come into the College to coach our students (plus Donald Grant is our Deputy Head of Chamber Music!).
To celebrate and develop this relationship, there will be a new series of concerts by the quartet over the next three years. The first year will take the format ‘Elias and Friends’ as the quartet collaborates with a range of musical partners. To launch the series, they join forces with the Emmeline Quartet – the new RNCM String Quartet Studio Artists for 2019/20 – to perform Mendelssohn’s Octet in E flat major.
If you’d like to dig a little deeper, each of these concerts will have an informal post-show session in our restaurant Brodsky, so that the audience can get to know the off-stage Elias Quartet a little better with a mixture of music and conversation.
The Elias Quartet’s next performance as part of ‘Elias and Friends’ will take place in March 2020 as part of the Chamber Music Festival.
9.30pm // Brodsky
ELIAS LATE – Grab a drink and join the Elias Quartet for a post-concert Q&A and performance of Richard Strauss’ sextet Capriccio, alongside Catherine Yates (viola) and Petr Prause (cello).
