About

Part of RNCM International Brass Band Festival.

An exhilarating fantasia infused with dance themes marks the opening of this performance, setting the stage for tenor horn virtuoso Tim de Maeseneer to give the world première of Edward Gregson’s Three Gods, Concerto for tenor horn, a highlight of the festival’s celebration of Gregson’s 80th birthday.

Elgar Howarth’s witty and inventive Fireworks follows and offers a Britten-like Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, but for brass, to close the first half of the concert.

The UK première of Elisabeth Vannebo’s Elektrodesign paves the way for David Stanhope’s three British folksong settings, a spectacular showpiece for brass and percussion. Concluding the evening, Foden’s Band performs John McCabe’s Cloudcatcher Fells, the title of which comes from a poem by David Wright, and the music itself is inspired by mountainous places in the Lake District that hold deep and personal significance to the composer.
