RNCM Chopin Prize
Our annual Chopin Prize celebrates the legacy of the virtuoso pianist and composer, as finalists from the RNCM’s School of Keyboard Studies showcase their exceptional skills.
Chopin’s connection to Manchester dates back to August 1848, when he performed at the Manchester Gentleman’s Concert Hall to one of his largest audiences. The event, warmly reviewed by the Manchester Guardian, left a lasting impression on the city’s musical landscape. This connection is commemorated by a statue of Chopin, created by artist Ludwika Nitschowa, which stands proudly on the RNCM concourse. Erected in 1973, it marks the 125th anniversary of his memorable Manchester appearance.
