Kathy Hart – SU President
London-born clarinettist Kathy has just completed her penultimate year of study and is taking a sabbatical to act as the President of the RNCM Students’ Union.
After picking up the clarinet at the age of 10, Kathy went on not only to become an enthusiastic member of a wide range of extracurricular music activities but also Principal Clarinet of Junior Guildhall Symphony Orchestra and Hertfordshire County Youth Orchestra.
Kathy has kept this enthusiasm with her in Manchester and enjoys a busy and diverse schedule which includes performing, teaching and directing various exciting outreach projects.
During her time with the Arundo Quartet, the group earned both the Trevor Wye Prize for Woodwind Chamber Music and the Audience Favourite Prize in the Christopher Rowland Ensemble of the Year competition for RNCM Chamber Music. Kathy has performed at a range of venues including Cadogan Hall, The Bridgewater Hall, the Royal Albert Hall and Milton Court, as well as in Lisbon with the Portuguese Youth Orchestra.
Alongside this, Kathy has designed and directed a number of innovative outreach projects on behalf of organisations such as RNCM Engage and the Whitworth Art Gallery, as well as working with musicians of the Philharmonia Orchestra and Manchester Camerata in an educational setting.
