Join us for an inspiring day of learning with two of the country’s leading euphonium players: RNCM tutors Professor Steve Mead and David Thornton.
Designed for enthusiastic players of ABRSM Grade 6 or equivalent, participants will benefit from masterclasses and tuition, covering areas such as performance, technique and ensemble work. You’ll also receive advice on preparing for auditions and performances before taking part in an informal concert for family and friends.

This day is distinctive in relation to the quality of coaching provided by players and teachers who’ve reached the highest levels of performance and education in the music industry. It aims to develop in each musician the importance of a whole mind and body approach to communicating music through their instrument.

You’ll be taught by staff from the RNCM School of Wind, Brass and Percussion:
Senior Tutor in Euphonium and Baritone
Steve is well known as one of the foremost euphonium soloists and brass teachers in the world today. He is Professor of Euphonium at the RNCM and received Fellowship of the College in 2008. He has played solo concerti with symphony orchestras worldwide and has performed as a soloist with leading military bands. He has also given concert tours with professional chamber ensembles in Europe, including Sound-Inn-Brass (Austria), Spanish Brass Quintet, Classic Quintet (Bolzano, Italy),Trombonisti Italiani (Italy) and London Brass.
Dr. David Thornton
Tutor in Euphonium and Baritone and Senior Tutor in Brass Band
David’s work within the brass band world has seen him at the top flight for over a decade. He has held solo euphonium positions with the Fairey Band (1997-2000) and the Black Dyke Band (2000-2010) having won European, National and British Open Titles during this time. David is currently solo euphonium with the Brighouse and Rastrick Band. David has been a tutor for the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, National Youth Brass Band of Wales, National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain, the International Brass Band Summer School (Swansea) and the Wessex Band Summer School, and many of his current and former students hold principal positions with the UK’s leading bands.

How Much Does it Cost?
The cost of the Euphonium Day is £30.
Attendees should have achieved ABRSM Grade 6+ (or equivalent). Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
