Chamber Orchestra of Europe
Our Professional Experience Scheme with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe (COE) is designed to give students an opportunity to work with a touring orchestra made up of players from many different countries with a strong European ethos.
Students on the scheme take part in rehearsals, classes and chamber coaching with COE players at the RNCM, focusing on core chamber orchestra repertoire.
Rehearsals may also provide opportunities for students to prepare for a public concert as part of the College’s performance programme. Having this goal and working closely with professional players gives a significant insight into how the COE works as an orchestra.
As part of the scheme, students will typically work in an orchestra alongside COE players without a conductor. Rehearsing and performing in this way provides a different experience for students, who learn how to apply principles of small scale chamber music making into a larger ensemble context.
Students may also have the opportunity to audition for the COE Academy. This scheme was created in order to give a select group of exceptional senior level students from across Europe the chance to study with the principal players of COE, sit in on rehearsals, have one-to-one tuition and chamber music coaching. Importantly, these students are given the opportunity to travel ‘on tour’ with the Orchestra to experience the orchestra’s idealism and unique ethos: to share the member’s passion for making music at the highest level with like-minded friends from diverse European backgrounds.
