Biographies

Percy Pursglove

Percy Pursglove is a composer, multi-instrumentalist and award winning improviser whose work spans a broad range of genres from avant-garde: new-destructionism and a multitude of indeterminate improvisational settings to choral composition and pop collaborations.

An alumnus of both the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, UK, and The New School University, New York – Percy holds a PhD in contemporary choral compositional techniques.

Percy is currently working extensively across Europe as a freelance improviser, recording artist, composer, clinician and member of the NDR Big Band, Hamburg.

Iain Dixon

Iain began his professional career with the BBC Big Band, where he stayed for eight years before becoming a freelance player on the London music scene.

He has played in the UK and internationally as a member of jazz groups led by Julian Arguelles, Dave Green, Mike Walker, Alan Barnes and Dave Newton, as well as leading his own bands.

As a session player, Iain has appeared on many albums with artists as diverse as Joni Mitchell, Primal Scream and the Spice Girls and has been a featured soloist on numerous film soundtracks including The Talented Mr Ripley and Bright Young Things.

Following a UK tour with the Michael Brecker Quindectet, Iain travelled to New York in 2003 to record the album Wide Angles.

As a member of Bryan Ferry’s band for over ten years, Iain has completed three world tours and numerous album recordings.

He currently teaches jazz improvisation at Chetham’s School of Music, in addition to running his own jazz summer school in collaboration with fellow musicians Mike Walker and Les Chisnall, with whom he regularly performs.
