Stay connected with virtual events from the RNCM SU

During these strange times, the Students’ Union feel that it’s more important than ever to keep connected, to look out for others and to support and help one another to maintain good spirits where we can.

Our Student Union team have been ‘meeting’ regularly to set our virtual community into action, discussing fun, innovative ideas to keep connected whilst also working hard to represent and support our student community across all aspects of college life.

Myself (SU President), Cara Houghton (Community Officer), Ruth Owens (Welfare Officer), Lavender Rodriguez (Diversity Officer), Ellie Lee (Education Officer) and Ely Clapperton (Activities Officer)

We’re also in daily contact with the Conservatoires UK Student Network and regularly with Greater Manchester University Student Unions and the National Union of Students, to ensure we’re working together, sharing ideas, supporting students on a larger scale and lobbying the government and local MPs where we need to.

Working hard in my temporary office

Onto the fun stuff… so what does an example week with the RNCM SU look like during lockdown?

Monday

We have a virtual RNCM SU Open Mic Night each Monday at 8pm. We’ve been running this since 20 April and it’s hosted by the wonderful Ruth Owens.

Tuesday

On Tuesdays, students can join in with a full-body workout led by third year flautist, Hannah Peverell, live from 10am.

Wednesday

RNCM Zumba is run by Hannah Boxall and Lucy Temby, live at 10am – kicking off our Wednesday mornings with a boogie!

Thursday

Thursdays are yoga days! You can join in with RNCM Yoga with Dasha Papysheva at 7.30pm. It’s the perfect way to wind down towards the end of the week.

Friday

Quiz Fridays start at 8pm! Video chat with your team, or get together with your housemates and/or family to take part in the ultimate quiz league and to have a good laugh. Fancy dress optional.

How else can we stay connected?

We’re holding ‘Cuppa and a Chat’ sessions on Zoom, in which any students can drop in for a chat with the SU, whether to ask the all important questions – or just to have a natter!

Look out for upcoming games nights, whether that be video games, board games or meet-ups on Club Penguin…

Online elections

We ran our elections for the new SU team virtually this year and were overwhelmed not only by the amazing campaigns ran by our candidates, but the engagement across the whole student body to get involved.

We’re delighted to announce the new SU team for 2020/2021:

President – Cara Houghton
Activities Officer – Ellie Lee
Education Officer – Charlotte Kennedy
Diversity Officer – Micah Scott
Community and Environment Officer – Beth Machell
Welfare Officer – Rosie Spinks

Stay up to date

Students can keep up to date with the RNCM SU over on Facebook, by joining the RNCM Freshers 2019/2020 Facebook group, or checking their College email every Monday.
