2025 Gold Medal Winners

The RNCM held its Gold Medal Competitions for popular music, classical music, and composition this month.

This year’s popular music winners were Jack Critchlow (pictured) and Hetta Falzon who performed their own music during the RNCM Session Orchestra: Original Artists event on Saturday 14 June. Pianist Madeleine Brown secured the Classical Final on Saturday 21 June, while the Gold Medal for Composition – presented on the same day – went to Kuba Williams for Coney Island at Night (1905).

Congratulations to all this year’s finalists: popular music students Róise McHugh and Hamish Levie, Jeanette Szeto (viola), João Luís (saxophone), Daniel Hohn (euphonium), and composers Joe Bloom and Helena Zyskowska.

Thank you to external guests Tabitha McGrath (Associate Director, Polyarts), Anna Meredith (composer), Helen Wallace (Head of Music, Barbican Centre), Roesh Poyser (BBC Introducing), and Shell Zenner (Amazing Radio) for joining the panels alongside Professor Linda Merrick CBE (RNCM Principal) and Manus Carey (RNCM Deputy Principal (Performance and Programmes)).
