Alumnus to Join Met’s Young Artist Programme

Alumnus Kang Wang has been accepted onto the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Programme, commencing in September.

Over the course of 12 months, the 27-year-old tenor will benefit from a specialised programme incorporating music, language, dramatic coaching, and movement from the Met’s own artistic staff and invited teachers, in addition to accessing rehearsals for all of the company’s opera productions.

Stefan Janski, Head of Opera at the RNCM, said: ‘We are all immensely proud of Kang’s international achievements since he completed his postgraduate studies at the RNCM and we all wish him continued success in his professional career as a superbly talented young artist.’

Originally from Harbin, China, Kang graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University under the guidance of Joseph Ward (former Head of Opera at the RNCM) before completing an RNCM Postgraduate Diploma in Opera and Vocal Studies (International Artist) in 2014. During his studies he performed the role of Nemorino in RNCM Opera’s 2013 production of Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore; won the 2014 Clonter Opera Prize; and took part in a recording of Michael Balfe’s Satanella with Maestro Richard Bonynge AC CBE for Naxos.
