Composition success at the Ivors

Gavin Higgins

Congratulations to Gavin Higgins and Professor Edward Gregson on their success at the 2019 Ivor Composer Awards.

Gavin, a 2005 graduate, won the Orchestral category with his BBC Radio 3 commission The Book of Miracles for solo trombone and orchestra, while former RNCM Principal Edward won the Amateur or Young Performers award with The Salamander and the Moonraker for children’s choir, two narrators, and orchestra, commissioned by the Hallé Concerts Society.

Established in 2003 as the British Composer Awards, the newly-named Ivor Composer Awards recognise the creative talent of composers and sound artists to promote the art of composition in contemporary classical, jazz and sound art.
