James Hendry Nominated for British Education Award

Alumnus James Hendry has been nominated for a British Education Award (BEA) for his outstanding achievements during his studies.

A brand new initiative established to promote excellence in British education, the BEAs identify and celebrate individuals who have excelled within our education system.

James was one of the first students to be accepted onto the Yorkshire Young Musicians programme, where he studied piano with Robert Markham in addition to studies in chamber music, accompaniment, musicianship and composition. At the RNCM he studied piano as an undergraduate with Helen Krizos as a postgraduate répétiteur with Kevin Thraves, graduating this year with a Master of Music in Performance (Répétiteur). He has worked regularly with the Hallé choral team; as Assistant Director of the Hallé Youth Choir, and as vocal coach and accompanist for the Hallé Choir Academy. He is also Associate Musical Director of the National Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company.

Earlier this year James was announced as one of three new Conductors/Répétiteurs on the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme (JPYAP), based at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. This prestigious scheme supports the artistic development of young professional singers, conductors, directors and répétiteurs at the start of their careers. During their placement, young directors and répétiteurs of the programme join music and directing staff of The Royal Opera and The Royal Ballet.

The ceremony will take place in London on Monday 30 January.
