RNCM announces 2020 and 2021 Gold Medal winners

2021 winners Victor Lim, Sinead O’Halloran, Henry George Page and Stéphane Bertin

We’re very proud to announce our 2020 and 2021 Gold Medal Winners.

Congratulations to pianist Giulia Contaldo, harpist Alice Roberts and composer Flowers Tannenbaum who secured the RNCM’s most prestigious prize for 2020 after the competition was deferred due to the pandemic. And to pianist Victor Lim, percussionist Stéphane Bertin, cellist Sinead O’Halloran and composer Henry George Page who achieved success this summer.

Professor Linda Merrick, Principal, said: ‘The Panel wishes to extend its congratulations to all of the finalists from 2020 and 2021 on the quality of their performances and compositions at a time when the pandemic has presented such significant challenges for all musicians.’

Manus Carey, Deputy Principal (Performance and Programmes), added: ‘A huge congratulations and thanks to all who took part in the Gold Medal finals for this year and those deferred from last year. Although we didn’t manage to run these live, and despite the challenges the pandemic has thrown up and the different digital delivery, the panel was very impressed by the standard of all the instrumentalist and composition finalists.’

As always, the panel also announced its highly commended finalists: saxophonist Martha Cullen, mezzo-soprano Georgia Mae Ellis and composer Adam Webster for 2021 and composer Sebastian Winter for 2020.
