Student composes rousing anthem for Music for Youth Proms

An original song by 19-year-old Popular Music student Pete Morgan was selected to close this year’s Music for Youth Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.

Let’s Get Together is a rousing anthem for full symphony orchestra, big band and several hundred young singers. It was composed by Pete with other students from the College and released on all digital platforms on 7 December 2018.

Each year, Music for Youth presents three spectacular showcase Proms concerts at the Royal Albert Hall. One thousand young musicians aged 21 and under take to the stage each night for what is often a truly life-changing experience. Earlier this year Music for Youth was on the lookout for a piece of music that would be relevant, appropriate and could raise the roof at the iconic London venue. Peter was the lucky recipient and went on to receive mentoring and support from Patrick Bailey, a MFY Music Mentor, to arrange and orchestrate Let’s Get Together for the finale.

He said: ‘I am very grateful and would like to give thanks to the RNCM, Music for Youth and to professional arranger Patrick Bailey for all of their efforts and support throughout the process.’

A Music for Youth spokesperson said: ‘Traditionally, the three Music for Youth Proms concerts have ended with a performance of Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March No 1 and the very well-known Land of Hope and Glory. However, Music for Youth has commissioned a new finale for the last two years, and this is the first time the charity has selected a song by a young artist; a high energy celebratory anthem more representative of the energy and enthusiasms of the young people taking part.’
