Winners announced for 2024 RNCM Gold Medal

Zilong Jiang, Haodong Wang and Sharon Man Nok Fung.

The RNCM held its Gold Medal Competition on Saturday 22 June featuring five of our finest performers and three leading young composers.

Adjudicated by David Butcher ((Chief Executive, the Hallé), Manus Carey (RNCM Deputy Principal (Performance and Programmes)), Lydia Connolly (Senior Direct, Artist Management, and Head of Inclusion and Access, Harrison Parrott) and composer Josephine Stephenson, this year’s winners were percussionists Sharon Man Nok Fung and Zilong Jiang, and composer Haodong Wang.

The final line-up included pianist Xizong Chen, euphonium player Daniel Hohm, violinist Sam Kane, and composers Sina Salour and Rosemary Shapes Tickle.

The RNCM Gold Medal celebrates the best of solo performance and new music and includes a strand for Popular Music students. This year, during the RNCM Session Orchestra’s Original Artists Edition, vocalist May Payne received the prestigious prize against a final line up that included Freddie Gilmore, She’s Mine and Grete Eitmantyte.
