RNCM Singers Awarded Independent Opera Support

Alumna Katie Lowe and postgraduate soprano Samantha Clarke have been awarded support in the form of a Postgraduate Fellowship and Vocal Scholarship from Independent Opera at Sadler’s Wells.

Awarded annually, Postgraduate Fellowships provide funding of £5000 for singing lessons, coaching sessions, accompaniment and professional development for singers in the early stages of their operatic careers, while Vocal Scholarships offer the same financial support to aid studies.

Katie, who sang the role of Anna Maurrant in RNCM Opera’s 2015 production of Weill’s Street Scene and became a Samling Scholar earlier this year, now joins a list of recent alumni to benefit from the fellowship, including Benjamin Lewis, Nadine Livingston, Soraya Mafi, Philip Smith and Andrea Tweedale.

Samantha, winner of this year’s Joyce and Michael Kennedy Award for the Singing of Strauss who sang the role of Fiordiligi in RNCM Opera’s Spring production of Così fan tutte, follows in the footsteps of 2015 recipient John Holland-Avery, who graduated from the RNCM this summer.
