British Open Brass Band Championships

The British Open Brass Band Championships made a welcome return to Symphony Hall, Birmingham, on Saturday 10 September.

We’d like to extend our congratulations to winners Brighouse and Rastrick, conducted by Professor David King, our International Chair in Brass.

This year’s Open was a success for RNCM alumni, with Chris Binns (trombone, Grimethorpe Colliery) winning the Stanley Wainwright Memorial Trophy; Richard Poole (soprano cornet, Foden’s) winning the Brian Evans Memorial Trophy; and Peter McDonough (euphonium, WFEL Fairy), securing the Geoffrey Whitham Memorial Trophy.

Congratulations also go to Steven Mead, Senior Tutor in Euphonium and Baritone, who was award the prestigious honorary Mortimer Medal.
