Hough and Maxwell Davies Receive New Year’s Honours

RNCM alumnus Stephen Hough and RMCM alumnus Sir Peter Maxwell Davies have been recognised in The Queen’s 2014 New Year’s Honours list.

Stephen, who graduated in 1981 and is also the College’s International Chair in Piano Studies, has been awarded a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) for services to music, while composer and Master of the Queen’s Music, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, becomes a member of the Order of the Companions of Honour.

Both Stephen and Sir Peter joins a selection of prominent musicians, performers, composers and conductors credited in this year’s list, including Sir Simon Rattle, Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, who has been awarded the Order of Merit.
