In tribute: Jimmy Skerritt (1946 – 2021)
We are deeply saddened to share the news that RNCM favourite Jimmy Skerritt passed away on Wednesday 1 September at the age of 75.
A friend to everyone at the College, Jimmy retired from his role as a Porter this summer after 23 years’ devoted service. He was highly respected and loved by staff and students past and present, always making them smile with his own brand of one-liners and Manchester humour.
Away from work, Jimmy spent many years as an amateur football referee and loved to play golf with his friends. He also enjoyed the social clubs of Langley/Middleton, often acting as compere, and spending time with his granddaughter.
Professor Linda Merrick, Principal, said: ‘Jimmy will be remembered fondly by staff, students and alumni of the College and I am sure everyone who worked with him would wish to join me in sending their sincere condolences to his family.’
Funeral Arrangements
Jimmy’s funeral will take place on Friday 17 September at Middleton Cemetery, M24 2PN at 11.50am. The service will be followed by a celebration of his life at the Gardeners Arms Public House, Hollin Lane, M24 5LE.
