Jean-Efflam Bavouzet Joins as International Chair in Piano

The RNCM is pleased to announce that acclaimed pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet will join the College in September as International Chair in Piano.

Recognised as one of the most engaging live performers of his generation, Jean-Efflam enjoys an eminent career as a solo recitalist and recording artist. He has also worked regularly with the world’s leading orchestras and conductors, including Pierre Boulez, Sir Andrew Davis, Ivan Fischer, Vasili Petrenko, Andris Nelsons and Krzysztof Urbánski. A multi award-winner, Jean-Efflam’s accolades include Gramophone and BBC Music Magazine awards for his recordings of works by Debussy and Ravel, and in 2012 International Classical Music Award named him Artist of the Year.

Graham Scott, Head of Keyboard Studies, said: ‘I am delighted to welcome Jean-Efflam Bavouzet to the RNCM as one of our International Chairs in Piano. He brings to the role a wealth of experience as a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician and teacher.  He has a busy international career but is well known in the region having performed on numerous occasions with the BBC Philharmonic and Manchester Camerata. He has a large discography that has won him many excellent reviews and awards.’

The RNCM employs International Chairs across all schools of study to offer exceptional tuition, masterclasses and coaching each term. From September, Jean-Efflam will become one of three International Chairs in the School of Keyboard Studies, alongside Kathryn Stott and Stephen Hough. Additional International Chairs include: Sir Mark Elder (conducting), Miklós Perényi (cello), Nobuko Imai (viola), Stefano Caunuti (bassoon), Graham Vick (opera) and Brian Fernyhough (composition).
