Kai Strobel appointed International Visiting Tutor in Percussion
The RNCM is delighted to announce the appointment of Kai Strobel as International Visiting Tutor in Percussion.
Joining the Anton Bruckner Private University in 2012 as a student of Leonhard Schmidinger and Bogdan Bacanu, Kai is now recognised as one of the most promising and influential percussionists of his generation. In 2018 he won the TROMP Percussion Competition in Eindhoven and in 2019, secured First Prize and the Audience Award at the 68th ARD Music Competition.
As a soloist, Kai has performed with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck, Württembergische Philhar- monie Reutlingen, Asko/Schönberg Orchestra, Musicum Collegium Basel and, among others, the St Petersburg State Capella Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed and taught at music festivals worldwide and is an Honouree of the Mozarteum International Summer Academy.
In addition to his solo career, Kai is a member of the Boum-Percussion Ensemble and the PinedaBraussStrobel Trio, for which he also regularly writes arrangements. He is endorsed by Dutch instrument maker Adams Musical Instruments, Zultan Cymbals and Meinl Percussion.
As an RNCM International Visiting Tutor, Kai will work with percussion students each year, delivering one-to-one tuition and masterclasses on solo repertoire and competition preparation, and presenting concerts. His first appearance in this role will be an exclusive recital at the RNCM Day of Percussion – Virtual Edition on Sunday 7 February.
