Louko Trio Wins Beethoven Chamber Competition
The RNCM’s Louko Trio has won the 2016 Beethoven Society of Europe Chamber Music Competition.
Held at Steinway Hall, London, on Wednesday 18 May, the competition featured nine ensembles each performing a duo sonata or trio of their choice, and was judged by a panel led by Peter Frankl.
Competing against ensembles from London conservatoires, Louko – comprising violinist Erkki Louko, second year cellist Waynne Kwon, and postgraduate pianist Victor Lim – opted to play Beethoven’s Piano Trio Op 70 No 1 in D major ‘Ghost’.
Victor said: ‘It was a great honour for us to have won this competition run by the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe. We are immensely grateful to our tutors Jeremy Young and Qian Wu for their dedication, inspiration and guidance in preparing us for it. We hope this will be the start of something really exciting and rewarding for all of us!’
The Louko Trio formed at the RNCM last September and recently won the College’s Hirsch and Nossek Prizes.
