Marshall Gilkes joins as International Visiting Tutor in Trombone

We’re pleased to announce the appointment of Marshall Gilkes as International Visiting Tutor in Trombone.

Marshall studied at Julliard on the jazz programme while simultaneously completing classical studies with Joe Alessie. Since settling in New York in 1998 he has played and recorded with a staggering number of artists and ensembles, including spending four years in Germany as a member of the WDR Big Band (2010 – 2013), with which he recorded two Grammy-nominated albums: Köln and Always Forward.

A tutor at Berklee College and Manhattan School of Music, Marshall will join the RNCM’s School of Wind, Brass and Percussion in February, working with trombone students and larger big band/jazz ensembles twice a year.

On Tuesday 4 February Marshall will present a public masterclass at the RNCM at 7.30pm.
