Mezzo-soprano receives Independent Opera scholarship
Postgraduate mezzo-soprano Rhiain Taylor has received a Vocal Scholarship from Independent Opera at Sadler’s Wells.
Awarded annually to a singer entering their final year of study on a specialist opera course at specific UK conservatoires, Vocal Scholarships provide £5,000 towards course fees, along with the opportunity to perform in the annual IO Scholars’ Recital at the Wigmore Hall.
Rhiain, who is studying with Louise Winter and is supported by Help Musicians UK, The Waverley Fund and The Mario Lanza Foundation and an Annie Ridyard Scholarship, follows in the footsteps of several RNCM singers, including recent graduates Samantha Clarke and John Holland-Avery.
Her operatic experience includes Irene in Handel’s Theodora, and in December she will perform the role of Dorothée in RNCM Opera’s production of Massenet’s Cinderella.
